Margaret Haddix has a long list of praise and accolades but she is most well known for her two series The Shadow Children and The Missing. The series Shadow Children includes a total of seven books and explores a government regime in which any child who is not born first or second is to be eliminated. They are tasked with the chore of helping to get the other kids who are misplaced back to the right places.
Jonah is one of these children and so is Katherine, his sister. The series The Missing revolves around children from history, the children were taken be advanced time travelers to a future date and time by accident (they are taken and left in the future as babies). Margaret’s two series, The Shadow Children Series and The Missing Series, both of these are followed by hordes of fans all over the world.
When she is asked about why she writes she simply states that she just simply loves books and loves to explore interesting ideas and characters. Margaret notes that she always has ideas and half written books rumbling around on paper or even in her head. She has now published a total of thirty three books, two of which were just released in 2013. Margaret’s first published novel Running Out of Time was released in 1995. She now lives in Columbus Ohio she is married and also has a son and a daughter. Margaret has lived in a few places in Indiana and Ohio, one place in Pennsylvania, and in college spent one semester in Luxembourg. Margaret held several different writing jobs before she began writing novels full time she was a copy editor and also a reporter for two different newspapers in Indiana, and worked teaching at a community college and as a freelance writer in Illinois. Margaret went to college in Ohio also, Miami University (yes, really in Ohio!), she studied history, English, Journalism, and creative writing. She grew up with her parents (her mother worked as a nurse) and her two brothers and one sister. Margaret’s father was a farmer he raised many types of grains (corn, wheat, etc.) and also raised livestock. It seems at that time she believed it to be more of a super hero type career, not one that anyone she actually knew did. Margaret Peterson Haddix is an American author of fiction, born in the year 1964, Margaret Haddix lived her childhood on a farm in Ohio, but even at that early time in her life she wanted to be an author.
